more weddings and beach trips!
08.01.2008

Much to our delight, Jason and I were able to spend another "vacation" at the beach. This time, it was the beach at Lake Huron, near the Michigan/Ontario border. We traveled there for our 4th and final wedding. The water here was MUCH warmer and so before the wedding rehearsal, we walked down to the water to see what Caleb thought of it. He seemed to be very intrigued by the little waves. As they lapped up at his ankles, he would giggle and stomp his feet. Way cool!!

Since our 4th and final wedding has now come and gone, I feel like the summer is coming to a close. This was quite a finale! Eric and Monique were married in Monique's hometown of Sarnia. You can see Lake Huron in the background of their photo! The crowd was much smaller, but no less special. And I loved seeing them display more affection than ever before! Ahhhh, love!! Like always, Caleb and I were like two peas in a pod that day, while Jason fulfilled his groomsman-like duties.

With one bad beach experience under our belts, we were much more prepared for this trip. Caleb sat under the umbrella and eventually fell asleep. Jason and I played frisbee in the warm water. Awesome quality time! The only downside was forgetting the sunscreen and getting completely toasted. Ouch!

Well, this day was an exceptional experiment. Carrie and I decided to use some of the fresh greenbeans from our garden to make Caleb's first ever baby food. So, after steaming, the food processor, and the blender for good measure, we went to town with greenbean goop on one side and rice cereal on the other. Caleb's faces tell the rest of the story.

Wow. It seems like almost everyday we notice little signs of Caleb growing. Whether it's him doubling his birth weight, sitting up and playing, or just plain being more engaging, we're delighted to see our little guy develop into being ... well ... "our little guy."

One of the areas where the growth seems so obvious is bath-time. What a difference a few months make!

Just like we did last year, we finished out the summer with a day-trip to the St. Lawrence seaway. The water is really cool and clear. But instead of sandy beaches, we hang out on what's left of the old canals and locks. Caleb explored the old locks with us, and eventually fell asleep. There's also a bridge that is fun to jump off of into the water. I couldn't participate last year because I was pregnant, but I wasn't missing out again. Good times! It was a very relaxing day.

More fun with food...Caleb managed to cover himself and the highchair with food. Between a couple of full-mouth sneezes and playing with the spoon, this was quite the mess!
